Ravensara Essential Oil (Ravensara aromatica) is a time honored, multi-purpose essential oil, known to be highly regarded by ancient nobility and only cultivated in the gardens of the ancient aristocracy. It is native to Madagascar, obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and small twigs of a tree of the laurel family.
Ravensara is naturally antiseptic, microbicidal, anti-infectious, specially with a mild antibacterial and a very powerful antiviral effect. It’s a very effective expectorant. Ravensara comes from the category of Immunomodulant essential oils, a name used to describe the regulating effect of an essential oil, which helps to energize the immune system. It has a stimulating action on the nervous system. It is most powerful when used in synergistic blends.
Ravensara has historically been used to ease respiratory tract infection and distress. It is beneficial in blends for skin irritations and can be used by young, old and frail alike. It has many uses and can be accessed through diffusion or applied to the feet through a carrier oil.
Use and Diffuse Blends:
Respiratory Ease – ravensara, eucalyptus, lavender
Cold & Flu Bath – ravensara, eucalyptus, clary sage
Energizing Blend – ravensara, grapefruit, lemon, bergamot
Warming & soothing – ravensara, ginger, cinnamon, clove
Relaxing Massage Oil – ravensara, sandalwood, cedarwood, frankincense
Basic cautions: Always use essential oils with caution and recognize that these oils are strongly concentrated – a little bit goes a long way. Do not ingest essential oils or take them internally in any way. Always use essential oils in a carrier oil or lotion. Keep all oils out of the reach of children. When trying a new oil or blend, always do a patch test.
