The ancient Greeks and Romans crowned themselves with Peppermint garlands. Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha peperita) is ‘cephalic”, it stimulates the brain and aids in clear thinking. It clears the head, leaving the user feeling fresh, bright and ready for mental effort. Peppermint is historically renowned as a natural comfort for headaches and stomachaches when used externally. It's been used historically in foot and stomach rubs and is steam distilled from the herb leaves.
Peppermint is disagreeable to insects and can be worn in a carrier oil as an insect deterrent. Mosquitos, fleas, ants and small rodents find the smell of mint quite distasteful. Five drops of Peppermint combined with 5oz of water(in a spray bottle) makes a great tomato plant or garden spray to deter fungi, critters and unwanted insects.
Peppermint is refreshing and helps to cool the body in warmer temperatures. Just remember that a little bit goes a long way. It’s a great pick me up when used in a shower gel and provides a curious tingly sensation on the skin. Mix it with unscented body splash to soothe high flashes – if refrigerated, it’s even better!

Headache Massage(on temples) – peppermint, lavender
Invigorating Bath – peppermint, eucalyptus
Foot Soak – peppermint, lemon, tea tree
Shampoo – peppermint, rosemary, tea tree
Uplifting Body Splash – peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary
Basic cautions: Always use essential oils with caution and recognize that these oils are strongly concentrated – a little bit goes a long way. Do not ingest essential oils or take them internally in any way. Always use essential oils in a carrier oil or lotion. Keep all oils out of the reach of children. When trying a new oil or blend, always do a patch test.
